Plus: Mushroom Festival and Doyle's

MUSHROOM FESTIVAL

The Hawk's Prairie Rotary Club hosts a humongous fungus feast June 27-28 in the Regional Athletic Complex at the corner of Steilacoom and Marvin Road in Lacey. Local restaurants will put their mushroom recipes to the test. For more information, go to www.mushroomfest.org.

BANG, BARBECUE AND BEER

Doyle’s Public House knows how to throw a party. Because they skip the foam, porn stars and vile shots, the crowd tends to concentrate on intertwining arms while tipping brew rather than luring anyone to a nearby PT Cruiser. The Weekly Volcano has been informed that Doyle’s will celebrate the Fourth of July with a barbecue in their parking lot. As a salute to those who serve they are offering free admission with military ID. They would like you to “Stop by on your way to the Freedom Fair” at 208 St. Helens Ave. in Tacoma.

TASTE OF TACOMA

Oh, to find the perfect wedding of the balmy outdoors and the convenience of food and booze; the conjugal bliss of a wild, starry night and cocktails within easy reach; the joyful joining of a cool breeze straight from nature and Brad Upton dissing politicians?

Welcome to the beautiful world of Taste of Tacoma.

Though billed as the “Ultimate Family Picnic,” we here at the Weekly Volcano prefer our Taste to be filled with booze — or at least, the ones with the hottest people — and funny people.  The Bacardi Comedy Club will give comedians such as Debbie Wooten, Joe Vespaziani, Rod Long and others a pulpit to swear beneath the sun as drunken people in tank tops feed them crap.  Let the games begin.  Oh yes, there also will be 50 food vendors and 30 food product companies offering their grub for sale, as well as tons of music. June 26-27 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., June 28 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., free admission, $10 parking, $3 tastes, beers and wine are extra, Point Defiance Park, 5400 N. Pearl St., Tacoma, tasteoftacoma.com.
