Beauty!

Some of the most sought after tickets of the year are now on sale. Tacoma Musical Playhouse is producing a stage version of the Academy Award-winning feature film “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.” The trademarked and copyrighted stage version tells the classic story of a lovely bookworm who finds herself falling in love with a prince in beast’s clothing.

[Narrows Theatre, through Aug. 5, 8 p.m., Friday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday, $16-$23, 7116 Sixth Ave., Tacoma, 253-.565.6867, www.tmp.org]

“Princess ida”

A fun show that is well worth the trip to the Emerald City is “Princess Ida.”

The comic opera is the only Gilbert and Sullivan work with dialogue entirely in blank verse. It is also the only one of their works in three acts. The opera satirizes feminism, women’s education, and Darwinian evolution, all of which were controversial topics in conservative Victorian England.  You’ll need a quick mind and a sharp ear to get all of the jokes.

[Bagley Wright Theatre, through July 28, 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, $12-$32, 155 Mercer St., Seattle, 206.292. 2728]

“cinderella”

All Saints Theatrical Repertoire Association is staging “Cinderella” as a dinner theater show with a moral message, and I don’t think it’s about shoe size.

[Parish Center Stage, through July 29, dinner at 6:30 p.m., show at 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday, $5-$45, 503 Third St. S.W., Puyallup, 253.579.6192, www.astramusical.com]
