Bombs Into You

Filling Le Voyeur with soundscapes

When I first ran across this band’s bio, I thought they’d be like KMFDM or Nitzer Ebb, but much to my surprise Bombs Into You is closer to Radiohead with a touch of Apex Twin. Combining organic textures with ambient soundscapes and electric jolts of energy, the Portland, Ore., quartet of Jared Jenson (vocals), Justin John (guitar), Gage Choat (bass, guitar and keys), and Nate Jayne (drums) is experimental enough to not be lumped into a genre but at the same time radio friendly enough to not be ignored by the mainstream.

After Jensen issued a Bombs into You self-titled debut in 2006, he was joined by the other three members. The album caught local support quickly as the band built an amazing live show. Jensen’s vocals range from a breathy whisper to a fever-pitched scream. Tracks such as “Move Me” and “Onono” have a Thom Yorke solo-project ambience, whereas “Stay the Best” inches toward a Depeche Mode meets My Bloody Valentine vibe.

The band will be issuing a remix project with such other electronic artists as Professor Scum, Go-Yo’s, and D Piddy reworking cuts from the debut. Deadline for your submission is July 15 so get out your sample boards. — Tony Engelhart
