Love the insect?

If you’ve ever dared the bridge prior to the spankin’ new one getting built, happened across the shop Red in Gig Harbor and thought, “Man, I wish we had something like this in our neck of the woods,” then your wish just came true. Dragonfly, uniquely inspired furnishings, the new venture by the brother-and sister-team behind Red, just opened in the Dome District, with a distinctly cool aesthetic that brings Chinese beauty, utility and simplicity from Far East to West.

True story: only the names have changed

If you loved Avanti Spas before July 1 and then noted the name change, don’t be alarmed: it’s the same salon, with the same people involved, but two of the three partners have stepped back to “silent partner” status, leaving Ruth Michelle (hence the name, Biella by Ruth Michelle) in the driver’s seat, moving the salon into a slightly new direction with tanning services, a spa boutique, and even espresso — though you might want to reconsider that triple latte right before that relaxation massage you’ve scheduled.

My favorite tidbit: the salon will feature a private color room where those involved in the sometimes not-so-glamorous side of color (because foil sticking out of the sides of your head leaves you looking somewhat like a high-tech spaniel) can relax with a television and that aforementioned latte.

Ahh, bella Biella…
