Spank!

What I spent my paycheck on this week

Spankin’ cute, no pink

What to do when the boss tasks you with getting a co-scribe a baby gift?

Admittedly, I offered to get said gift, since I think shopping for babies ranks up there with pleasures like “long walks on the beach” and “watching a sun set while sipping a nice Malbec.”

And these days, baby shopping is made more fun with some shops in Olympia offering super cute, super cool baby garb, and doohickeys that won’t make adults feel the particular sort of queasiness associated with the inhalation of too much pink crap and baby powder.

While Radiance has some fabulous natural parenting ideas that cater to new mommas, and while The Sweet Life has all manner of fun stuff ranging from punk tot to granola organic, I chose to spend the cash at Compass Rose (the Nikki McClure 1000 Days journal seemed a natural choice for an Oly-based scribe and his new wife, plus I loved it so) and room 30, whose San Francisco meets global chic aesthetic always reels me in.

Found? Sweet tees with angel wings, butterfly wings, and sweet matching bottoms.  Found? Cool toys and stuffed felt food. Bought? Organic cotton onesie with sweet botanical print, as well as cards to match with colors and sentiments that tied the whole thing together.

Buying for new babies is so much nicer than having them!

Spank me!

There was a time when I saw the Milli-Vanilli-esque “hold it in” shapewear called Spanx at Cake in University Place and said, “Oh, no.  Shoot me before I need anything like that: before I get to such a sorry state that I need those articles of clothing, I will get my large butt to the gym.”

Now put away the gun, please. I wear the garment because I found out that 1: it really does smooth my bumpy parts and help to hold me together, and 2: believe it or not, it’s nice on hot sweaty days not to feel my legs (or butt) stick on vinyl seating or fear the dreaded resultant sweat-marks.

And yes, I am getting that double-wide bottom to the gym as soon as I finish writing this.
