On Saturday, June 9, Allan Boothe will play an early, 4 p.m. show at Jazzbones, celebrating the release of his debut full length CD, Open Air in a Closed Casket. It’ll be an excellent opportunity for fans of Boothe’s folksy, funny-voiced, strangely intriguing styling to enjoy the acoustic toting Tacoman long before the sun goes down.

The Weekly Volcano, and as of recently I, kind of owe Allan Boothe. Apparently, someone here at the Weekly Volcano wrote a little something about a show Boothe played in May at the Library and inaccurately stated it was a CD release party.

It wasn’t. That was our first slap to Boothe’s face.

Then, after he’d written me an e-mail trying to stir up a little press for his CD release show at Jazzbones — an e-mail to which I rudely didn’t reply — I got this message from Allan Boothe via MySpace:

“Hi, you don’t know me at all. But I sent you an email around a week ago asking for an article in the Volcano. I’m a pretty nice guy. You should help me out. Just kidding. I suck. No seriously, can you? Or is it too late? Do you just not want to? That’s cool if you don’t.

Thanks, Matt,

Allan”

Allan Boothe will play Jazzbones this Saturday. What can people at home learn from all this? Not much, except it’s never too late for a little self-deprecation and a well executed guilt trip. — Matt Driscoll
