Are We Done Yet?

In this sequel to “Are We There Yet?” (2005), the once mismatched Nick (Ice Cube) and Suzanne (Nia Long) are now married and moving to a fixer-upper in the country with Suzanne’s two children (cruel hellions in the first film) and twins on the way.  What could have been a good film about building a family set against the metaphorical backdrop of rebuilding a house quickly turns into a slapstick, updated version of “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House.”  Though the action is swift and the movie runs under 90 minutes, parents may find themselves silently chanting the title until the credits roll.  Rated PG for some innuendos and brief language. Firehouse Dog

When we first catch a glimpse of Hollywood star Rex, a pampered pooch with a ridiculous hairpiece, “Firehouse Dog” seems doomed to the Dumb Dog Movie Hall of Fame.  But don’t let the pompadour fool you.  Director Todd Holland wisely steers clear of giving his canine star human qualities like the gift of gab, or introducing evil, dog-hating villains.  When a movie stunt goes awry, Rex goes missing and finds himself sniffing around in unfamiliar territory, ultimately getting adopted by a firehouse and a 12-year-old boy.  Plot points are predictable but, like a loyal pet, “Firehouse Dog” ends up being a fun family experience that all ages will enjoy. Rated PG for sequences of action peril, some mild crude humor and language HHH – TB
