Local Memorial Day weekend events

The VA will host public Memorial Day commemoration ceremonies at more than 130 of their national cemeteries this Memorial Day weekend. Please check out the list below to find ceremony dates and start times for a cemetery near you. 

Visitors are encouraged to contact the national cemetery to confirm ceremony information prior to the event. Dates and times may change due to inclement weather or other circumstances.

Fort Lawton Post Cemetery: Monday, May 29 at 11 a.m.

Interurban Trail War Memorials 5K Fundraiser: Monday, May 29 at noon

Interurban Trailhead Parking - Pacific Interurban Trail Pacific, WA 98047

5K Walk or Run Fundraiser for three War Memorial Sites along the Interurban Trail in Pacific. 5K will lead you past all three future War Memorials. Registration fee $25.

Mountain View Memorial Park Memorial Day Service:Monday, May 29 at 2 p.m.

4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood

Mountain View Memorial Park and the Pierce County Veterans Advisory Council invites you toattend this event as they pay honor and tribute to all the men and women who died serving our country. Event features JBLM Quintet, the Buffalo Soldiers Mounted Cavalry, wreath laying ceremony and presentation of colors. Mountain View will be open all weekend long for visitors. Staff will be available to help you locate gravesites. Complimentary Hot Dogs will be served by Hot Rod Dogs of Lakewood.

 Museum of Flight's Memorial Day Ceremony:Monday, May 29 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

9404 E Marginal Way S, Seattle

Schedule includes performance by Boeing Employee Concert Band and a presentation by U.S. Marine veteran Michael Reagan. Ceremony is FREE with Museum admission. For active-duty military and veterans, FREE Museum admission on Memorial Day.

Puyallup Memorial Day City Observance: Sunday, May 28 at 2 p.m.

Pavilion in Pioneer Park, 330 S Meridian, Puyallup

Guest speaker: Michelle Black, Gold Star Widow, author of:  Sacrifice: The Green Berets, a Fateful Ambush, and a Gold Star Widow's Fight for the Truth". Performance by The Clan Gordon Pipe Band. Free event and appropriate for all ages. 

Steilacoom Memorial Day Statement at Town Hall: Friday, May 26 at noon

1717 Lafayette Street, Steilacoom

Join city staff at the Steilacoom Town Hall for the laying of a Memorial Day Wreath in honor of U.S. military personnel who lost their lives while serving our country.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony at the Capitol Rotunda: Monday, May 29 at 11 a.m.

PBS' National Memorial Day Concert: Sunday, May 28 at 5 p.m.

America's national night of remembrance, returns for a live presentation this Sunday hosted by Tony award-winner Joe Mantegna and Emmy award-winner Gary Sinise, acclaimed actors dedicated to veterans' causes and supporting U.S. troops in active service.

Sunday's concert from the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol will feature the following segments: Paying tribute to Gold Star Families, the 50th anniversary return of Vietnam War POWs, the 70th Anniversary Korean War Armistice and a World War II remembrance.

The deeply moving and reverential night will also feature performances by multi-platinum entertainer and TV/film actor Trace Adkins; the husband-and-wife duo, Iraq War Army Veteran Michael Trotter, Jr., and Tonya Trotter; five-time Grammy Award-winning Gospel legend Yolanda Adams; Grammy Award-nominated and CMA- and ACM Award-winning country music star Jo Dee Messina; multi-platinum singer-songwriter Phillip Phillips; and the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly.
