It's adding a little sugar to a cup of coffee or opening a fresh new bar of soap just out of the wrapper. For some, these things are simply woven into the fabric of our lives and seemingly overlooked or taken for granted. For others, like local veterans in need, these basic necessities and little comforts don't come easily.

The nonprofit, Washington State Chapter of the Warrior Brotherhood Veterans Motorcycle Club, wants to make things better for veterans; it's on a mission to help its brothers and sisters. Through fundraising and donation efforts within the community, the organization provides much needed items to veterans who are receiving treatment and housing assistance at the American Lake VA Hospital Domicile in Lakewood.

However, for the Warrior Brotherhood, the mission goes much deeper. Bonding, support, loyalty, honor and tribute are deeply ingrained in the organization's belief system. Veterans and active-duty personnel themselves, this team is dedicated to fellow veterans and the military community at large. And it's not just individual members making a difference; Warriors work alongside their families on behalf of local veterans.  

At the ready and willing to serve through active and ongoing fundraising efforts and special events, the team needs your help, now more than ever.  

Last year, the organization assisted 150 veterans at the American Lake VA Hospital with the aforementioned supplies. This year, the numbers of those in need are expected to rise considerably.  

According to Washington State Chapter of the Warrior Brotherhood Veterans Motorcycle Club Chapter C Tacoma member, Michael (Bluto) Hunnicutt, the team has found there is a continual and increased need for donations and sponsorships to help the growing number of veterans that need assistance. Monetary donations are used and needed to purchase the following items: hygiene items (male and female) such as shower shoes, soaps, coffee, creamer, sugar and other basic essentials. Sponsorships include donated hygiene items or other donated goods and services for special fundraising auction events.

And speaking of fundraising events, the Warriors have two in the near future. Saturday, July 13, Northwest Harley Davidson in Lacey plays host to a bike show that shows off some incredible rides. Get in on the raffle for a 2013 Harley Davidson Sportster. Saturday, Aug. 31, the organization is offering the AM Lake Run for the Vets.
