Devoted Kiss Cafe

You'll want to kiss the cook after you've devoured your meal

ANNOUNCER: Though Gig Harbor seems a distant town off the beaten path, in actuality, it's just minutes from Tacoma across the Narrows Bridge. This week, Dutch and Jackie venture to the far end of the Harbor to a little hole in the wall -- Devoted Kiss Cafe. Visited often by the locals, this little café is one of the best kept secrets outside of town. Serving up house made dishes for both the early breakfast crowd through the late lunch diners, it's a can't-miss either as a destination or if you are out enjoying everything the Harbor has to offer.

JACKIE: You can grumble about paying the bridge t(r)oll but Gig Harbor's downtown boasts a walkable, idyllic charm. Though Devoted Kiss' dining room is cozy and intimate, you can bask in the waterfront glory with the waves reflecting light onto the ceiling. They also have a fabulous outdoor seating area both street-side and on their waterfront patio. Or, you can ante up to the rail with the diner-styled, countertop seating.

DUTCH: I had heard good things about the breakfast so I decided it would be a good weekend start to my day. As an early riser, I was pleased that they open at 7 a.m. on the weekends. Additionally, I was surprised to not be the only diner at that early hour! As I browsed the menu, the local couple next door told me I'd be a fool if I didn't try the banana bread French toast. Skeptical that it may be too heavy of a meal that early in the day, I found that though heavier than a traditional brioche selection, it was quite light while considerably more flavorful. Made fresh daily on location, their patrons' waste very little time finishing the batch each day.

JACKIE: Way too early for me Dutch, but it's no surprise. Even on a late morning during a weekday the place was hopping. I think their popularity is a testament to the quality of service and culinary delights. I zoomed in on the menu's three types of benedict featured: classic, smoked salmon and pulled pork. Execution on this dish is vital and Devoted Kiss did not disappoint. The pulled pork eggs benedict was beautifully presented: golden brown English muffin, an appropriate serving of smoky pulled pork and perfectly poached eggs all lathered with a generous amount of rich, creamy hollandaise and finished with a pop of flavor thanks to fresh pico de gallo.

DUTCH: The lunch offerings are simple and fresh. The chicken salad sandwich, for example, included rotisserie chicken mixed with mayonnaise and fresh chopped onions and celery. But it is the fresh avocado that really ramps up the freshness factor. I also appreciated the light croissant as a bread choice.

JACKIE: Fresh, house made or largely sourced locally translates to delectable eats for sure! As an industry veteran, I marveled at the service, too. Uber friendly, professional and precise, everyone worked as a team refilling coffees and greeting and seating guests. Don't let the bridge toll discourage you, it's well worth a visit.
