ANNOUNCER: It's not often that Fircrest gets much mention in this column, let alone in this newspaper. The sleepy town only recently received the blessing to sell alcohol, and with only a few commercial areas, there's not much room for anything new.  A few weeks ago, Sammy's changed that, bringing pizza pie to one of the area's smallest towns.

JASON: This is a new location for a place that's been serving pizza in Tacoma for awhile.

JAKE: I've enjoyed Sammy's pizza a few times at their I Street location, but it was nice to enjoy a cold beer and pizza in Fircrest now. My go-to pizza is usually something loaded with meat options and the Meat Lovers does not disappoint.  Stacked with pepperoni, Canadian bacon, sausage, salami, beef and bacon atop a crispy crust and red sauce.  Your pizza will be packed with flavor, just make sure to bring your appetite with this one.

JASON: Sammy's offers three different crust options, which is unique for a sit-down, non-Pizza Hut location.  They offer hand-tossed, garlic-thin, gluten-free, and a beer crust which our server likened to a Blue Moon-like flavor.  I loved the garlic-thin - it paired well with their Maui Waui - a pineapple and bacon concoction with toasted almonds and BBQ sauce.  On our basic pepperoni, we tried the beer crust but while moist and chewy, we couldn't taste the beer.

JAKE: The Maui Waui was a pleasant surprise as I almost passed it by because of almonds as an ingredient.  However, the almonds add a nice earthy compliment to the sweetness of the BBQ sauce and fresh pineapple, as well as the smoky bacon, Canadian bacon and a drizzle of honey.

JASON: The menu is mostly pizza, but they do have some signature salads, wings and ribs.  I'd recommend the chop salad - the quality of Italian meats are excellent at Sammy's.  They are also pouring great craft beer, which I suspect rotate on their taps.

JAKE: Sammy's also has a handful of vegetarian options like the garlic pesto or the Popeye Pie which includes fresh spinach.  Furthermore, every pizza on the menu is available with a 12" gluten free crust.

JASON: Overall, I liked having quality pizza in Fircrest as an option.  The place lacks a warmth, however.  The tables and seats aren't overly comfortable, and even though packed with employees, we still had to order at the bar for our meal.  I think they could do more to make this place homey - right now, it's a little too much like a public golf course snack shop with a bar.
