It's Greek to Me has been an institution in Tacoma for over 22 years, and if you've ever grabbed a gyro from the drive-thru, then you have been part of their success over the years.  This past spring, owner Jim Wick made the move across the street. The new location is literally, next door, so it will be easy to find.

This small move gained It's Greek to Me a pair of public restrooms, a banquet room, dining deck, and indoor seating of about 10 tables, which is a vast improvement over the no bathrooms and only two tables that existed in the old location.  Do not worry, long-time customers, the drive-thru business is still intact and a big part of the appeal.

If you park in the back lot, then you can walk right past the outdoor deck and into the dining room in plain view of the service counter.  There is still not a great deal of frills to be had here, as the focus is on the food.  Offerings include a Greek salad with ripe tomatoes, Kalamata olives, feta cheese, spicy pepperoncini and a wonderful yogurt dressing. Additionally, the selection of sides can add a sense of completion to your meal; choose from basic crispy fries, Greek seasoned fries, warm pita bread, or a cup of soup to name a few.

Even with all the offerings that can't be found at many locations around Tacoma, one look around the dining room will tell you all you need to know about It's Greek to Me; and that is, that they make an outstanding gyro.  A vertical meat cone of ground beef and lamb is visible from the counter, and every serving contains a generous pile freshly shaved onto a warm pita, then topped with onions, crisp lettuce and juicy tomatoes.  But the real story here is the house-made yogurt sauce as the final touch to the crunch offered by the veggies and the heartiness of the meat.  Be warned however; the sauce is addicting.

A second location can also be found in Puyallup.  The Puyallup location is far more formal than the casual dining you will find at the 6th Ave. restaurant.  Additionally, it includes a full service bar and table service.

Whether you would like to be served, dine casually, or grab a bite without leaving the comfort of your car, It's Greek to Me can and will meet your needs.  Come be part of a 22-year tradition.
