Cruising down Sixth Avenue in Tacoma, you will pass restaurant after restaurant, but tucked in on the corner of 6th Ave. and one of the many side alleys in Tacoma, you might miss Dirty Oscar's Annex if you're not paying attention. There's not a lot to look at when you enter either; a bar in the middle, surrounded by bar tables, and a pool table in the back. But once you take a look at the menu, you will quickly see what is special about this place.

The cocktail selection is anchored by its Moonshine 7 selections. Creating adult versions of childhood favorites such as strawberry lemonade, cherry cola and a southern peach, Dirty Oscar's Annex offers several tasty options in the drink department.  Be careful with these though, they are tasty and can go fast; I enjoyed my cherry cola before I could choose what to eat.  Both the strawberry lemonade and cherry cola are exactly the type of summer drink that hits the sweet spot on a hot summer day next to one of Dirty Oscar's juicy burger choices.

The burgers are clearly something that Dirty Oscar's takes pride in creating, from the elk sliders, to the classic cheeseburger or salami-stuffed burger.  Dirty Oscar's also isn't afraid to leave the traditional either, as proven by the Dead Elvis burger.  An all-beef patty with candied bacon, fried banana, creamy peanut butter, and a fried egg that sounds odd, but shouldn't be missed when you are feeling adventurous.

On my last visit, I wasn't feeling quite as daring, so I simply asked how the chicken and waffles were.  Very quickly, I was told that they were "unstoppable!"  One cannot say no to a dish described as unstoppable.  I was not misled; the waffle is large and crispy with smoky, salty bacon stuffed throughout.  Smother it with either the raspberry compote or maple syrup, or in my case ... both.  Then top this off with three pieces of piping hot buttermilk chicken, and my waitress was right ... it is incredible.

Come to Dirty Oscar's Annex for the Moonshine selection, and stay for the excellent food.  But don't blink cruising down Sixth Ave. and miss this little corner of heaven in Tacoma that serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and some late night fun as well.
