MAKE YOUR OWN CHEESE

Cheese mongers should gather at Bayview School of Cooking (516 W. Fourth Ave., Olympia) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16 to take the hands-on instructional course, "Make Your Own Cheese." Mark Solomon, a Seattle-based cheese maker, guides participants through every step toward making seven soft cheeses: mozzarella, ricotta, lebneh (yogurt cheese), quark, cream cheese, chèvre and mascarpone. Afterward, participants can nibble on his or her own cheese with a fresh caprese salad. Complimentary wine pairing is included to boot. The cost is $65, which includes instruction, hands on opportunities, wine, bites, ingredients, cheese education and details about great sources for info, supplies and equipment. The Hub in Gig Harbor (1208 26th Ave. NW at the Tacoma Narrows Airport) is celebrating its one- year anniversary beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. Expect $3 Harmon brews, special deals on grub, live entertainment and giveaways.

MADE IN TACOMA

Wingman Brewers (509 1/2 Puyallup Ave., Tacoma) celebrates the culinary culture in Tacoma by hosting its annual "Made in Tacoma" event beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. Enjoy street tacos provided by Dave's Meats and Produce, Wingman brews, vino from 21 Cellars and some roasted bean concoctions courtesy of Bluebeard Coffee. Other Tacoma makers of goodness include Ice Cream Social, Libertine Tacoma and others.
