HILLTOP URBAN GARDENS

Hilltop Urban Gardens (South 19th and Ainsworth, Tacoma), also known as HUG, is now open 12:30-2 p.m. Monday-Thursday, through Aug. 21. Summer festivities will include the distribution of lunches and snacks to folks of all ages, as well as activities based around gardening, harvesting, social justice and our food system. No registration is required; just arrive and enjoy this community event.

PIG ROAST!

Harmon Brewing Co. welcomes summer with its annual Family Friendly BBQ and Pig Roast at its Hub and Harmon Tap Room restaurants (204 Saint Helens Avenue, Tacoma) June 21. This real life pig roast is buffet style, all-you-can-eat event for $20; $12 for ages 12 and younger. There will be live music and drink specials to accompany this grub dive from 1 p.m. until close.

DAYCLUB IS BACK

People like eating outside, and they'll stop at almost nothing to do it. They will choke down steaming food as mysterious water droplets rain down from air conditioners above. Crowd a party of eight into one pitiful corner of shade. Inhale exhaust fumes along with aromas of fine wine. At The Social Bar and Grill (1715 Dock St., Tacoma), the only negative aspect of dining on its patio is trying to find a table. Its patio is a lovely spot to while away a weekend afternoon, sipping cocktails and old world red wine and watch condo residents walk their dogs. Come Sunday afternoon, tables mean nothing as resident Dj Mr. Melanin and rotating guests spin an eclectic and extremely tasteful selection of lounge, bossa nova and electro soul music 2-6 p.m. This triple threat of delicious happy hour specials, sun and hip tunes is known as Tacoma's only daytime summer party, "Dayclub."
