BATES SIZZLES

Bates Technical College hosts its 11th annual fundraiser "Bates Sizzles" at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18 inside the Pantages Theater (901 Broadway, Tacoma). Tickets are $60 if you're going stag or $100 per couple and include libations, nibbles provided by Pacific Grill and a silent auction and raffle event with proceeds going directly to benefit Bates programs. All this with jazz tunes setting the mood for a dining experience with purpose of a higher education. Call 253.680.7160 for tickets or more information.

FUNDRAISER

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fundraising event will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 18 at Doyle's Public House (208 St. Helen's Ave., Tacoma). The event features a silent auction, 50/50 cash drawing and live music courtesy of the vivacious Kim Archer. For more information, call 206.628.0777.

COOKING CLASSES

Food for Life presents the four-week series Cancer Project Nutrition and Cooking Classes beginning Saturday, April 20. The purpose of the series is to offer practical education and preparation of a plant-based diet, including tips for healthy living and dietary changes that can help to prevent cancer and aid cancer survivors. Prepare and taste dishes each course beginning on April 20 with How Foods Fight Cancer followed by the April 27 class, Fueling Up on Low-Fat, High Fiber Foods. Discover Dairy and Meat Alternatives is the topic May 4. The series ends May 11 with Cancer Fighting Compounds and Healthy Weight Control. Each class is $20 or $65 for all four. The 11 a.m. classes are held at The Roberson (708 Market St., Tacoma). Reservations can be made at pcrm.org.
