NOW OPEN

Mash, a store dedicated to home beer brewing, is now open at 2714 N. 21st Street in Tacoma. Go there to get everything you need to make your own beer at home. Open Tues. - Fri. 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sat. - Sun 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. 253.468.3972.

STICK IT TO HUNGER

Donate jars of peanut butter for Stick it to Hunger, a friendly competition between the cities of Puyallup and Sumner April 30 - May 11. Donations go to the Puyallup and Sumner Food Banks. For drop-off locations, see their website.

PICKLE DE MAYO

Join Lynnae's Gourmet Pickles at Doyle's Public House (208 St. Helens Ave S, Tacoma) May 2 at 1 p.m. for a free event featuring pickle-themed games, contests and prizes. Try the "pickleback shot", a shot of Jameson Whiskey followed by a chaser of Lynnae's Gourmet Pickles Doyle's Dill juice.

BEER FESTIVAL

The Gig Harbor Beer Festival is Saturday, May 12, 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Uptown Gig Harbor Pavilion (4701 Pt. Fosdick Dr., Gig Harbor). 21 and over only. Featured will be Northwest craft brewers, with raffles, music and more. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here. 

BURITTO EATING CONTEST

Masa (2811 6th Ave., Tacoma) is holding a six pound burrito eating contest on Cinco de May, May 5, at 7 p.m. Registration goes through the day of the event until 4 p.m. Latecomers will be disqualified. There is a $25 entry fee. The winner receives a cash prize and of course, bragging rights.

COOKING WITH BEER CLASS
Bella Kitchen Essentials (4793 Point Fosdick Drive NW, Suite #200, Gig Harbor) is holding a "Cooking with Beer" class May 12 at 6 p.m. Maggie Inge will be teaching this hands-on class, which will feature beer dip, beer-marinated flank steak, cherry beer chocolate cake and more. SPRING COOKING CLASS

Toscano's Café and Wine Bar (437 29th St. NE, Suite A, Puyallup) is having a spring cooking class Sunday, May 20 at 4:30 p.m. Executive Chef Tom Pantley will be demonstrating how to cook a variety of items, including penne pasta primavera, lime chicken skewers and a strawberry rhubarb cobbler. ITALIAN WINE EVENT

BUTCHERY CLASSES
Sea Breeze Farm and La Boucherie (17635 100Ave. SW, Vashon) are teaching butchery classes May 1 and May 15 ($165/full day or $95/single session). Morning session 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., afternoon session 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.  Butcher's lunch with the staff included. For details, call 206.567.4628.
