I've never been much of a holiday person. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Grinch, but you better not ask me where my Christmas tree is on Thanksgiving, and sure as heck don't ask me to go shopping right after dinner! But that aside, I am a lover of twinkling lights and the spirit of generosity that envelops folks during the season. You see it everywhere -- food drives, super steals, and reasons to gather abound. Here are a few tidbits that crossed my radar:

The Hoppy Holidays Food Drive includes five local breweries collaborating to make a big impact. Odd Otter, 7 Seas Brewing, E9 Brewing Co., Narrows Brewing and Wingman Brewers are accepting non-perishable food and hygiene items in-house until Dec. 16, with proceeds benefitting Emergency Food Network. Then on Monday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m., Peaks and Pints is hosting a reveal party where each of the participating breweries' donation piles will be weighed. If you didn't make it to any of the breweries, you can still bring a donation to the event - it even counts as a form of a "vote" for your favorite brewer. The brewery with the most in donations gets a cool tap handle trophy and bragging rights. Do good deeds, drink good beer. It's a win, win. 3816 N 26th St., Tacoma

Not in line with the festive fun but still cool news; Crudo & Cotto in Tacoma's Proctor district opened their doors early this week. The owners also operate Basilico Italian Restaurant in Olympia. For their new endeavor, one can anticipate a menu featuring Italian flare, boasting local ingredients and a fresh oyster bar. The menu will reflect the establishments name with half of it being uncooked or raw (Crudo) dishes and the other being Cotto, meaning, well ... cooked. More than anything I'm very excited about having an oyster bar in Tacoma. 2717 N Proctor, Tacoma

Get on your apron and preheat the oven, Broken Spoke Tacoma is getting into the festive spirit by hosting a Holiday Cookie Bake Off and Exchange, Dec. 22, 2-4 p.m. The rules are simple, cookies must be handmade, not purchased at the store, because that would be cheating. And, you must bring at least two dozen to share with the group (you're welcome to bring more). You then get to munch your way through the competition and vote for your favorite sweet treat. It's free to attend but you must be 21 and older. 1014 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Tacoma

Honeycuspe Waffle Truck crafts some of the most sumptuous waffles I've ever encountered. They are a delight, so when I saw that they're hosting a Honeycuspe Holiday Love at NW Beerwerks, I was giddy. What does it mean? ALL waffles are only $2 on Saturday, Dec. 21, from 9 a.m. until close. That's a sweet steal! I recommend getting there early. You only get one per customer so don't be greedy and bring your cash. That's all the tender that will be accepted. 2504 Steele St. SE, Olympia
