Grub Gossip

Bite-sized foodie news for your consumption

While it seems as though Mother Nature has given us a rash of false summer starts and summer storms, all the same it is still food truck season. Rain or shine! Consider a spattering of cloudy skies the ultimate deterrent for those less dedicated than you. That means shorter lines. Shorter lines equate to more opportunities to hit up neighboring trucks. You win! There are not one but TWO food truck festivals one must put on their agenda this weekend. Let's dig in.

On Saturday, July 20, noon-7:30 p.m., celebrate the Fourth Annual Tacoma Musical Playhouse Food Truck Festival. TMP is rallying up some of our favorites including Boss Mama's Kitchen, Bliss and HamHock Jones Soul Shack. Theatre and food truck?! Hell yea. Mamma Mia has two showings Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at the box office. No worries if grub is the only thing on the agenda. Tables and chairs are provided and other food trucks in attendance include a delectable diversity: Dawg Eat Dogs, Itty Bitty Schnitty, MIX Poke Truck, Rain or Shine on Fire, Ruca, ‘Sweet Dreams' Chef Bette Anne Curry, Inc. and Wildside Wine Shop (open for your wine and beer needs). 7116 Sixth Ave., Tacoma

On the following day, Sunday, July 21, 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., you can put those walking shoes and work pants with the elastic bands to good use with the sixth annual Metro Parks Food Truck Fest at Wright Park. Wright Park serves as the perfect scenery for food truck fun, it's like a picnic elevated to its finest form! Plenty of room for the kiddies to roam. There will be live music on the main stage, a beer garden for the adults and dozens of trucks slinging delicious foodie fare. Literally there's something for everyone including classic American fare, burgers and BBQ plus Vietnamese, Middle Eastern and Hawaiian bites, and that's just skimming the surface. The event is free to attend and sponsored by Titus-Will Ford, Pepsi, MudBay, Bloodworks Northwest, City of Tacoma Government and AT&T. The full list of vendors includes: Arnold's Happy Days, Ben & Jerry's / Hula Girl Ice Cream, Bliss Small Batch Creamery, Burrito Boy, CJ's Phillys, Dippin' Dots, It's Greek to Me, Jazzy's Cookie Company, Kama'aina Grill, Kona Ice of Ollala, Legendary Doughnuts, MIX Poke Truck, Mobile Food Command Center, On the Grind, Original House of Donuts, Panda Dim Sum, Quickie Too / Plum Bistro, Sirius Wood Fired Pizza, Smokin' Robinsons,  Stacks Burgers, Taco Girl, Tijuana Taco, Tornado Potato and Yummy 8. 501 South I St., Tacoma
