Best of Tacoma 2019: Asado

Readers' Pick: Best Date Night, Best Happy Hour

Whether you're on the prowl for the perfect ambiance to make eyes across the table or just want to grab some reasonably priced, exceptional grub, Asado has been chosen by the people as the best for both! It's a rare matrimony, Best Date Night and Best Happy Hour together, as often times we consider the two destinations very different beasts but clearly the two can be executed within one space.

General Manager Chris Casella says, "We strive to provide the fine-dining standards of service and quality of food in a casual atmosphere. You can definitely come in here and spend big money to impress a client or woo a date or you can enjoy happy hour for cheaper than grocery shopping. The standards of food and quality of service are the same regardless."

Asado is known for their steaks and entrées boasting an Argentinian flare. Their presentation is eloquent, with a wine selection that will dazzle even the educated connoisseur. Add candlelight and what more do you need to set the mood? The dining experience begins before you even get settled at your table. Rather than circling the Ave like a vulture looking for that perfect space, on Tuesday through Saturday valet is available for a $5 fee. Of that fee, $4 benefit Mary Bridge Hospital. Zero parking strife and the warm and fuzzies of a good deed elevates every dining journey.

Though the happy hour program is lesser known, it isn't less splendid. House favorites on the bar menu include handmade empanadas, steak skewers, and the Prawn and Turf - with steak and prawns swimming in a delectable spiced cream sauce and served with Macrina potato bread (this dish is my go-to). You'll also find traditional happy hour faves with a twist like the Parmesan Fried Chicken Sliders and The Asado Burger. And if you're dining in the lounge during happy hour, 3-6 p.m. or 10 p.m. to close EVERYDAY, you can score those items for 50 percent off. That makes each menu item $5 to $8 and they don't skimp on the flavor, quality or portion sizes! It's no wonder they won your hearts, bellies and votes.
