Bite-sized foodie news for your consumption

By Jackie Fender on March 7, 2019

I scoured the inter webs for my favorite smorgasbord of foodie theme festivities. I'm delighted to say there's an excess of furry and feathered friends and beer. If either are your bag, then you're in luck.

This weekend, Harmon Brewing is kicking off a Hub Meet the Brewer, a South Sound Brew Tour. Head Brewer, Jason Forgey will visit each Hub locale to talk about all things Harmon brew, including their newly released Voyd Rider Dark IPA and their Hops of March IPA. The tour kicks off Friday at the South Hill location, hitting up Stadium District, Saturday, and Gig Harbor, Sunday. Bonus, live music will be featured at each event! It pairs nicely with beer.

If you're thinking in advance of spring and summer and can't find the gumption to start working on that "summer bod," Odd Otter has got ya covered with their Yoga and Beer. Let's face it, a beer can make yoga sound a lot more appealing. Get your namaste on. 10 a.m., Saturday, $15, 716 Pacific Ave., Tacoma

Goats and cheese are a one-two combo I can get behind, but Lost Peacock Creamery is taking it to next-level dreamy with their Cheese and Cuddles event. Saturday, March 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., ticket holders can cuddle baby goats (squeal!) and may even have the opportunity to bottle feed them (oh.em.gee.) If that isn't lure enough (what are you? Heartless?!), the $20 ticket price includes a package of their award-winning chèvre, plain or garlic Thai. Kids can also attend with a reduced rate that doesn't include the cheese. They do say, dress accordingly, because you know, it's a goat farm and all. 5504 Cross Creek Ln. NE, Olympia

Fish Brewing Pub and Eatery at Point Ruston closed its doors quietly after only a brief year of operations. Their Olympia locale will remain in business. Sadly, it seems as though Point Ruston's Seattle approach to a parking garage that is free when validated by neighboring restaurants impacts said restaurants business in a negative way. Or so it would seem, as Fish Brewing is not their first loss.

This series of events gets me a little twitterpated. Nature After Hours: Hoos and Booze hosted by Point Defiance Park on March 15. What is it? Join the park rangers for an evening hike through the forest followed by a boozy beverage around the fireplace at the Pagoda. Rad, amirite? The theme this round is owls, which the park serves as home to five species of! Dress for weather with trail-appropriate shoes, though headlamps will be provided. The adventure goes from 6-8 p.m., $22 per person, must be 21 and over to participate. Find tickets at eventbrite.com. 5400 N. Pearl, Tacoma

The 8th Annual Slider Cook-Off isn't until March 23, but it's wise to get your tickets in advance. The Museum of Glass hosts this tiny-burger extravaganza in the lobby of their big beautiful building and let local restaurants sling sammies like it's nobody's business in a slider showdown. Participating restaurants include: Stack 571, Asado, Bite, The Table, and the Social Bar and Grill. Key West best attire is encouraged to pair with live tunes inspired by Jimmy Buffet. Find tickets at museumofglass.ejoinme.org. 1801 Dock St., Tacoma
