Let the holiday packing of the pounds begin! I've shoveled enough bite-sized candies into my gaping maw that my sweet tooth is officially satiated for about four months. I can't resist those tiny little chocolates calling my name from the kids overpriced Halloween bucket. My mind is now set on the savory side of things. Carbs, full bodied beers and luscious vino varietals. Local foodie-themed festivities are mirroring this hankering, so appeasing my cravings should be easy enough.

Here are a few on my radar right about now:

Gig Harbor Brewing has released their new brew, Battle Axe Bavarian Lager. Starting this week the Tacoma taproom is filling glasses full of this märzen lager-styled nectar. This particular style has its origins in Bavaria and was traditionally kept in the cellar until late in the summer, remaining bottles were served at Oktoberfest.

Gig Harbor's take on this classic style is stated to have a medium dark golden color, nice malty flavor, and clean dry finish. You can only score it currently at the Tacoma locale but the Harbor locale will follow soon. 3120 South Tacoma Way, Tacoma & 3115 Harborview Dr., Gig Harbor

Pray For Snow flurries in on Thursday, Nov. 8, starting at 5 p.m. This isn't a call to the cosmos for actual snow, not from my end anyways, but the annual winter raffle event hosted by Harmon Brewing. There is copious amounts of hop based libations involved like the Harmon Steep and Deep Winter Ale paired with Heritage Distilling BSB shots traveling down and ice luge. And loads of other fun from live entertainment to raffles for ski gear and swag. Bonus, it all benefits Mary Bridge Children's Hospital and SheJumps so while you're praying for snow, you're also getting all warm and fuzzy from your good deeds. This event is all ages! 1938 Pacific Ave., Tacoma

There's something about champagne that makes it the go to for celebratory moments. It might be that satisfying pop of the cork or that bubbs make us all a little giddy. I couldn't tell you which came first but Black Door Wine Company is dedicating their next tasting to all things bubbly Saturday at 4 p.m. They'll pairing Grower Champagne with nibbles and live music! Le sigh. Tickets are $35 per person and the Black Door crew share a plethora of vino varietal knowledge to boot. 1213 Earnest South Brazil, Tacoma

Pizza and fundraising, what more could you ask for?! La Gitana partners with the Olympia Film Festival to raise serious funds for the 35th annual Olympia Film Festival. Wednesday, at La Gitana between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. and 20 percent of all sales benefit the cause. Slices of pizza pie, the arts and a local establishment makes for a win, win, win in my book. And I mean .... it's not like you NEEDED an excuse for pizza amirite? 518 Capitol Way S., Olympia
