Grub Gossip

Get Out (of the house and take advantage of some of these delectable festivities)

By Jackie Fender on June 8, 2018

I'm not really sure what the "summer bod" thing is all about? I mean, your body is your temple. I've never heard of folks counting the calories they placed upon altars of the divine, why start now!? I'm team Dionysus, that dude knew how to party. Keep the fermented grapes juices flowing, or in this case hops, agave and apple. I did throw in some family friendly fun, because life is all about balance. That, and I am a true believer that we should celebrate the gift of grub starting from an early age. Here are a few foodie focused events happening in the South Sound:

Dupont based, F.O.B Brewing Company scored 3rd place in the People's Choice category with their Violence is Golden IPA at the 2018 South Sound Hazy IPA competition hosted by the Harmon Taproom. Boasting notes of citrus, passionfruit and pine, F.O.B is pouring it on tap right now. If that's not an indication you need to get in there, I don't know what is. You can snag a growler to go or take a seat and pair your brew with one of the rotating food trucks making an appearance. Current trucks in the loop include Boss Mama's Kitchen, HomeTown Dogs, The Hot Corner and Kama'aina Grill. 2750 Williamson Place Northwest, Dupont

You had me at "strawberry." June 9 marks the 82nd annual Strawberry Festival. From noon to 4:30 p.m. festivities will include local vendors, entertainment and kid friendly activities. There will also be a Strawberry Short-K, 5K run or walk in the a.m., which is an excellent excuse to indulge in strawberry shortcake. You'll have earned that sweet treat. South Bay Grange, 3918 Sleater Kinney Road Northeast. For more details visit bkmusicalproductions.com

There are more new additions coming to Tacoma's 6th Ave District. Locust Cider is anticipating opening their doors to the Tacoma community this summer. This will mark the fourth of their locales with Woodinville serving as their flagship. The Tacoma locale, neighboring Jazzbones, will be joining Ballard and Fort Worth, Texas as Locust's sister stores. The taproom will be pouring 12 varieties of cider crafted from PNW apples including funky fresh flavors like Vanilla Bean, Honey Pear and Dark Cherry, just to name a few. Cider sippers, stay on the lookout.  2805 6th Avenue, Tacoma, locustcider.com

Tequila admirers are in for a treat. Dirty Oscar's Annex is hosting a Hornitos Tequila Dinner June 13 at 6 p.m. This dining adventure includes a 4-course meal paired with Hornitos based craft cocktails. Course one is a Hornitos Reposado concoction paired with Whitefish Ceviche. Move on to an anejo based libation presented with Pork Belly Al Pastor Street Tacos, then Hornitos Cristalino gets buddy-buddy with a chili lime tenderloin dish. Finish it all off with Hornitos Black Barrel playing nice with a strawberry shortcake finale. Tickets are $75. Must be 21 and over to attend. Visit the DOA Facebook page for more details.  2309 6th Avenue, Tacoma
