Let's get cozy

Fireplaces around town to cozy up to while having a bite or brew

There are few things in this world that can make you instantaneously feel warm and cozy. None of these you'll necessarily discover readily available while dining out like say a pup's silky soft fur, the content purr of a kitten, lush velvety blankets or a lover's embrace. As a chill seems to permanently reside in the air, and slick frost covers our windshields and terrain, there IS one thing you can discover at local dining establishments, the warm glow of flame in fireplace. Here are a few of our favorites around town:

The fireplace has been well versed in the language of love since the dawn of time. Make eyes over an exquisite meal and glass of wine seated beside Asado Cucina Argentina's fireplace. It's mood lighting at its finest and the ultimate date night experience. 2810 6th Ave., Tacoma

If you dig a hip vibe and roasted bean concoction matrimony, Metronome Coffee is the fireplace for you. Grab your cup of joe and read the morning pages or even sit outside on their sidewalk patio to enjoy their two-sided fireplace. The glow of your laptop may try to lure you away, but resist. 3518 6th Ave., Tacoma

If the Bocce Ball doesn't get the blood flowing, you can always opt to nosh on your brats seated next to the epic fireplace at Rhein Haus. A beautiful stone mantle is mounted with stags. Sipping on an Old Rasputin never felt so grand. 649 Division Ave., Tacoma

At Jewel Box Café you'll find velvety red chairs and a couch to lounge near the fireplace. It's the perfect place to warm runny red noses and windswept locks after leisurely strolls along Tacoma's Ruston waterfront. Plus, the vibe there is eclectic, classy and posh all at once. 5107 Grand Loop, Tacoma

Fire almost always equals s'mores, and at Tacoma's Camp Bar, you can enjoy this natural matrimony without having to sleep in a tent and not shower for days at a time. There's comfort food and a campy, wild vibe to be enjoyed while also indulging in a game of pool.  Flannel not required but encouraged. 1310 Tacoma Ave. S., Tacoma

Hotel Murano's lobby bar has a swanky fireside vibe. Sip on a craft cocktail paired with a small plate and take in the splendor of it all. No reservation at the hotel required, but they also have valet, which is a bonus when trying to park downtown. 1320 Broadway Plaza, Tacoma

A mountain-themed tavern would be incomplete without a fire, amirite? Peaks and Pints is a rad taproom with a diverse selection of bottled and canned craft brews where a true beer lover might just fall in love. The staff is well versed in all things hops and the menu is pretty dynamite as well. 3816 North 26th St., Tacoma

The Tacoma Matador is a nightlife hot spot that boasts another hip and attractive vibe. There's enough open flame in the place to catch you ablaze, but the flickering lights make those margarita eyes just look playful. The fireplace centerstage has a table you can ante up to and nosh upon Texas-sized nachos and is prime real estate in the place and hard to nab a spot at. 721 Pacific Ave., Tacoma
