Located on Olympia's 4th Avenue next to the downtown Olympia Transit Center, King Solomon's Reef has been serving traditional American pub fare to generations of Olympians. Its recently updated interior and innovative menu continue to attract both young and old.

King Solomon's Reef boasts a menu rich in locally sourced ingredients. For instance, its coffee is from Olympia Roasting Company. Baked goods are delivered fresh daily from nearby San Francisco Street Bakery, and the meat comes from Tumwater's own Western Meats.

Dubbed the "Best Diner in the Galaxy," the Reef, as it's affectionately known, offers off-street parking and a family-friendly dining room that's open until 3 a.m. The 21 and over lounge is open until 2 a.m., and reservations are not required. Breakfast is served in both the dining room and the lounge from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes traditional offerings such as waffles, pancakes, omelets and eggs Benedict, and some items unique to the Reef like vegan Tempeh Hash, Ms. PacMan (egg, cheese and your choice of meat or tofu served on French toast), and the Flying Saucer - biscuits and gravy taken to a whole new level.

Lunch and dinner menus include some tasty treats as well and include everything from a traditional 1/3-pound cheeseburger with all the fixings to Chachi's Inferno - a double meat cheeseburger with spicy pepper sauce and jalapeños. There's even classic fish and chips from 4 p.m. to midnight. Along with meaty burgers, sandwiches and entrées, the menu also includes vegan and vegetarian options like the famous Buffalo Tempeh Burger. You'll find some unusual offerings from other regions of the country as well. The non-alcoholic beverage menu lists Chicago's famous Green River Soda, and the breakfast menu features Chicken and Waffles, an East coast favorite.

The history of King Solomon's Reef is almost as interesting as its menu. Destroyed by fire not just once, but twice - in 2008 and then again in 2011 - the Reef has persistently risen from the ashes. The restaurant has also been host to the occasional celebrity over the years: Kurt Cobain is rumored to have been a devotee of its macaroni and cheese.

With a menu that offers something for everyone and a pleasant, casual atmosphere, it's no surprise that this vintage restaurant is Olympia's best diner.
