Hello, decadence - literally.
For its contribution to Tacoma Restaurant Week, Affairs Chocolate & Desserts is offering both breakfast and lunch items for its starters and entrees. But what people really want to know about is the desserts on its $25 three-course menu.
Well, the options don't disappoint. Between Oct. 14-18 and 21-25, the University Place eatery is serving up slices of its three most sought-after desserts, said general manager Jesse Landry.
Chocolate lovers can choose between Chocolate Decadence, a "very rich, very thick" dark-chocolate flourless torte with a thin layer of raspberry and chocolate ganache; and Landry's personal favorite, a white-chocolate cheesecake that he says is "to die for." And then there is Affairs' ironic most popular offering, a coconut cream cake made of vanilla cake with coconut pastry cream and iced with whipped cream and coconut.
"It's funny because it's Affairs Chocolate & Dessert - with dessert coming second," Landry said with a laugh.
Landry said patrons are drawn to Affairs because its desserts are unique, all-natural and handcrafted on site. The Chocolate Decadence is even gluten free.
As for the rest of the menu, diners can start with either a garden or Caesar salad - or a three-stack of Affairs' beloved mini-pancakes (your choice of buttermilk or huckleberry).
The entrees are a Reuben sandwich featuring house-roasted corn beef and braised sauerkraut on grilled rye bread; baked penne pasta with sun-dried tomatoes, basil, garlic and spinach simmered in a three-cheese sauce; or a South of the Border Skillet. This popular breakfast choice includes ground beef, fresh jalapenos, peppers and onions over roasted potatoes and two eggs. It's topped with melted cheddar, sour cream and pico de gallo.
"We're doing it a little differently," Landry said. "Most (restaurants) are doing lunch and dinner, but we don't serve dinner, so we had to get creative."
And he thinks that creativity will pay off.
"These are easily our most popular items," he said. "I think if this is going to bring in a new crowd, I want them to experience the best we have to offer."
