Excitement for the 8th Annual Gig Harbor Wings and Wheels event is growing.
"Airshows are fun. Car shows, live music, static displays and good food all combine for a fun time," said Air Force veteran Doug Fratoni, the event's director.
Presented by the Tacoma Events Commission, the show will be held at the Tacoma Narrows Airport in Gig Harbor Saturday and Sunday.
"This will be the only airshow in Pierce Country this year," continued Fratoni. "Come out to Gig Harbor to see amazing airplanes while getting your car and motorcycle show fix at the same time."
Spectators can expect to see and hear the following:
- Smoke-N-Thunder jet car racing at 300 miles per hour down the runway
- AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter and Bell UH-1 Huey flyover
- World War II P-51D Mustang fly-by
- Vietnam-era TA-4J Skyhawk fighter jet flyover
- Flying aerobatics performed in a 1943 Boeing Stearman biplane
- West Coast Raven RV Team flying formations
- Extra 300C flying aerobatics
- Live music by Courage the U.S. Army Rock Band, Kim Archer, The Spud Makers, and The Jim Valley Project with Jim Valley of Paul Revere and the Raiders
Private airplane and helicopter rides will be available at an additional cost; details available at the gate.
Tickets for adults 18 and older are $15 in advance, $20 at the gate; seniors are $10 in advance, $15 at the gate; military ID holders are $10 in advance, $15 at the gate.
For children ages 5-17, tickets are $10; for ages 4 and under, there is no charge. VIP Chalet tickets are $50 and include admission, reserved shaded seating, a catered lunch and soft drinks.
Les Schwab, Smoke-N-Thunder Jetcar and Veterans of Operation Iraqi/Enduring Freedom (VOIEF) are offering free tickets to current and former military personnel. Visit a Les Schwab Tire Center in Pierce County, present military or Veterans Administration ID and mention Jetcar or VOIEFF for tickets.
Limited onsite VIP parking will be available at the airport for $10. Offsite parking is available at St. Anthony's Family Medicine, 4700 Point Fosdick Dr. NW. Shuttle buses will run every 15 to 30 minutes at no cost during event hours.
