Here's a "thanks for your service" with a buzz to it.

Saturday, Oct. 10, there will be free admission for military families for a night of car racing at the Evergreen Speedway. They're calling it military appreciation night.

Whether you're active-duty, retired or in the Reserves, admission is free for a military family up to four. Military ID has to be shown.

The Evergreen Speedway, a paved 5/8th-mile oval race track built in 1954, is on the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe. Racing begins at 6 p.m.

The race track has hosted 32 NASCAR Winston West Series races.

The event is part of the Rusty Wallace Racing Experience, while offering a NASCAR style driving experience on 50 tracks throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Don't worry about there not being enough seats for cheering fans. The stadium has seating for 7,500 fans under the covered grandstands and another 5,000 seats in the uncovered grandstands.

Evergreen Speedway provides a unique experience. It's one of just eight tracks in the United States that has Formula Drift racing. The popular race track also offers karting, motocross, drag racing and sports club events. If it's got four wheels and it's fast, Evergreen Speedway's got it.

The layout of the track is unique. It has seven different tracks for racing. David Pearson, a legendary stock car racer who began his NASCAR career in 1960, called the Evergreen Speedway the "Super Speedway of the West" during one of his visits to the track.

On the paved oval tracks, drivers reach speeds of about 120 mph. Two years ago, Jeff Montgomery, racing in the winged sprints division, broke a record for the 5/8 mile track that had stood for nearly 20 years. Montgomery did one lap in 18.59 seconds, breaking the record of 19.54 seconds set by Rick Veenstra in 1995 while driving in the super model tour west division. They're the only two drivers to do a lap on that track under 20 seconds.

Chuck Richard, Nick Tuller and Dawson Cox are all runaway favorites to win the rookie of the year awards for their divisions this year. Richard has scored 483 points in the Street Stock division and leads Joshua LaPlante by 254 points. Tuller has 248 points in the mini-stock division and leads Matt Stone by 145 points.

In the Hornets Division, Cox leads the rookie of the year award with 541 points and Dylan Biewald is second with 286.
