The Washington State Historical Society (WSHS) is looking for recollections written by or about military service members to be read aloud in a Veteran's Day event. The event, titled Sharing Memories: Veteran's Day at the History Museum, will take place at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma on Friday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.

Those interested in reading aloud at the event are encouraged to submit written pieces of 500 words or less recounting a memory, story or experience relating to the American armed forces. Pieces should be submitted to the WSHS by email at socialmedia@wshs.wa.gov. Deadline for submissions is Nov. 7.

Ten entrees will be read aloud, while the remainder of pieces will be available for viewing at the event. Submissions should indicate the name, address and phone number of the author. Requests can be made for stories to be read anonymously.

Active duty and retired military and their families are offered free museum admission for the event.

The exhibit "Black Wings: American Dreams of Flight," which features an extensive history of African Americans in military aviation, will be available for viewing throughout Veteran's Day.

The exhibition is open to the public at a cost of $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for students and military. Children 5 years of age and under are admitted free. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday thru Sunday.
