Since 1979, the Vadis organization has been helping individuals with disabilities find employment here in the Pacific Northwest. From its humble beginnings, Vadis now helps more than 350 people per year find employment, including work opportunities at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

For approximately 15 years, Vadis has extended its services to the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), working together to help those with disabilities find work on JBLM.  From the Exchange, to the many vendors and restaurants on base, Vadis has worked to find the job that best suites every individual.

"Each employment opportunity is different," said Karen DiPol, employee services manager at Vadis.  "We work with employers on finding the best match for their needs in (every) potential employee that we can.  Vadis provides a wide array of services for those seeking employment, from building resumés, to going through the interview process, even job shadowing after a job has been secured."

Jen Bagley is a Vadis success story.  Hired two years ago at the JBLM Mini Mall, she works at two restaurants and fulfills janitorial duties as well.

"Everyone at Vadis is very nice," said Bagley.  "I like how (the staff) stayed with me as long as I needed.  I've been employed for two years now and I really like it."

Irene Garcia has also enjoyed her employment through Vadis.  "I like how my job coaches help train me.  When I get to know my job, they support me, then leave me (to work) on my own, and I can always call them if I need help."

Vadis will host its annual fundraiser auction on Nov. 12 at the Puyallup Fair Pavilion.  This year's theme is "A Kentucky Derby Affair."  The auction is open to the public and will begin at 5 p.m.  Tickets cost $45 and include dinner provided by Galluci's Catering.

Auction items include a trip to Las Vegas, featuring a three-night stay at the new Cosmopolitan overlooking the Vegas strip, tickets to see the Blue Man Group, and more; a race car ride with Jeff Barstow, where you'll ride alongside the professional race car driver in a Porsche GT3; a two-night stay for two at the Inn at Cannon Beach and an official NFL field jacket signed by future Seattle Seahawks Hall of Famer Walter Jones.
