JBLM starts to re-open more services

Base continues to see slow but steady decline in Covid cases

Cases of COVID-19 on Joint Base Lewis-McChord continue to slow along with the rest of the state Lt. Gen. Randy George, I Corps and base commander said Tuesday during a regular scheduled townhall meeting via Facebook.

“(Lower cases) means its easier to maintain readiness and return to a more normal way of life and possible return to face to face schooling,” George said.

In light of these results, George announced the following changes on base which are compiled on JBLM’s Facebook page:

HALLOWEEN

Base officials are still looking into seeing what Halloween will look like this year in the COVID-19 environment. On Oct. 24, JBLM’s MWR will present a Haunted Crooked Road – (not so scary from 2 to 4 p.m., main event from 6 to 10 p.m.) – a drive thru scare experience.

MWR OPENINGS

• McChord Main Fitness Center is open to active-duty family members from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays by reservation. (Active-duty service members are authorized during this time as well). Call (253) 982-6707 to make reservations.

• McChord Auto Hobby -- All bays now open Thursdays through Sundays. jblm.armymwr.com/programs/mcchord-auto-center

• Effective Sept. 14, Wilson and McVeigh fitness centers will be open to active-duty family members from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each location will have a phone number to call in to reserve your spot and each gym has a specific capacity. Please visit jblm.armymwr.com for details.

• Warrior Zone will open for computer use only daily 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting Sept. 14.

• Bowl Arena Lanes, on Lewis Main, will open the week of Sept. 14 for league play and by reservation with lane capacity limitations and mitigation strategies in place.

• Aquatics programs previously at Keeler Pool & McChord Pool will relocate mid-September.

SEASONAL CLOSURES

• Shoreline Park and McChord Pool close at the end of the day Sept. 13. Marina and splash parks will remain open until the end September.

FACE COVERING REMINDER

Face coverings will be worn on JBLM in all public retail establishments (Exchanges, commissaries, shopettes, etc). They will also be worn in work spaces and training areas when unable to maintain 6 feet of separation. As a simple rule, if indoors and you leave your office or cubicle — wear a face covering.
