The 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command welcomed a new commander to the Rest Assured team June 13. Brigadier Gen. James Moore relinquished command to Col. Timothy White during a ceremony on Watkins Field, Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

White, a native of Spencer, Massachusetts, has served in the Army for 27 years and commanded at various levels. His last command was of the 2nd Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade in Camp Carroll, Korea.

Lieutenant Gen. Gary Volesky, I Corps commanding general, officiated the ceremony before hundreds of soldiers and family members.

"The 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command and its soldiers embody the same principles that guided our earliest logisticians, but the job of sustaining forces is exponentially harder to do than it has ever been," Volesky said. "Units from the 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command are the most deployed in the Corps and regularly support combat operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan."

Moore took command of the 593rd ESC two years ago, but has sustained the Corps for 10 years of his military career. He has served under I Corps as a company commander, battalion commander, brigade commander and finally as the 593rd ESC commander.

"I have a true appreciation of how exciting and complex it is to provide sustainment support to the Pacific area of operations," Moore said. "This command has been at the forefront of the complexity with our rigorous exercises, training and deployment schedule."

White will command more than 3,100 soldiers and is responsible for the sustainment support of units across I Corps.

"Congratulations on being selected to command this fantastic unit," Volesky said. "I know you'll continue to build on the great foundation that has been set before you."

White is no stranger to America's I Corps; he has been serving as the assistant chief of staff G-4 at I Corps Headquarters for the past three years.

"What I've really loved about serving at Joint Base Lewis-McChord is that there's a lot of innovation that's coming out of here -- whether it is associated with multidomain operations, standing up at Security Force Assistance Brigade and being the home of the Stryker Warfighting forum," White said. "Those are all things that enable us to be at the leading edge of a lot of technology (and) the leading edge of where our Army is going and where we are headed in the future."

The 593rd ESC is currently the lead organization for the activation of the 5th Security Force Assistance Brigade. It supports several operations across the globe, providing sustainment and humanitarian support.

My family and I feel really fortunate that we have been entrusted with this outstanding organization," White said. "We really appreciate the support of the local community and soldiers. We are going to work very, very hard to create and sustain an environment where every family, soldier, noncommissioned officer and officer can thrive -- that's really what I think high performing organizations do."

The 593rd ESC supports dozens of exercises and partner nation events in the U.S. and across the Pacific each year. The command is prepared to deploy anytime, anywhere at a moment's notice.

"I'm honored to be your commander," he said. "We are going to work together in order to continue upon the legacy that the 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command has and that is: that they are a trusted, confident and relied upon member of America's I Corps team and JBLM."
