Turkey shoot

Event raises holiday funds

It is always desirable to shoot for eagles on a golf course during a Turkey Shoot.

But par is good, too.

"It's about camaraderie," wrote Amber Young, a representative of America's Credit Union, in an email.

ACU is sponsoring the 2017 Annual Turkey Shoot and Holiday Support Golf Tournament Nov. 3 at Eagles Pride Golf Course.

It is a four-person golf scramble tournament followed by dinner, awards and a raffle giving away dozens of great items.

Registration is at 9 a.m.; a shotgun start will be at 10 a.m.

"After 16 years of the Turkey Shoot, it has become traditional for the participants. Being together for such a wonderful cause creates an atmosphere of fun and teamwork," said Young.

Over 200 individuals representing various agencies are expected to participate.

Designed to assist soldiers and their families at Joint Base Lewis-McChord during the holiday season, this annual event raises funds for Santa's Castle, the Holiday Assistance Program, and the Madigan Foundation.

Over the years, America's Credit Union has raised over $500,000 for these charities.

"It's a great event that serves those who serve us," said Young.

That's par for the course.
