Washington 6th most patriotic state

Study shows military personnel want to live in Washington state

The personal finance website, WalletHub, recently released its report on 2017's Most Patriotic States in America.  Washington came in at number six.  Virginia took top honors, while New Jersey has the dubious honor of least patriotic state in the union.  WalletHub used 13 key indicators to determine the level of patriotism.  Max score was 100 points with 50 from military engagement and 50 from civic engagement.

The statistics were very enlightening when it comes to Washington state. It ranks number 18 in the Average Number of Military Enlistees per 1,000 Civilian Adults Population (No Prior Service) but ranks number seven in the number Active-Duty Military Personnel per 1,000 Civilian Adult Population. That means more military personnel want to live in the state while less civilians want to enlist. Washingtonians are not hesitant to serve, just not in the military.  They are third in the nation for Peace Corps Volunteers per Capita.

Other interesting facts in the report include that Red States are more patriotic than Blue States. Maine had the highest percentage of voters in the 2016 presidential election while Hawaii had the least. Alaska ranked number one in military engagement while New York ranked 50.  Vermont ranked number one in civic engagement and Illinois ranked number 50.  Washington ranked 11 in both.

Here is the full results on how Washington fared in Patriotism.  One is the most patriotic and 25 is average.
