Flavia Garcia Hulsey from the Team Red, White and Blue (RWB), Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM)/Tacoma Chapter and Holly Constantine from the Association of the United States Army (AUSA), DuPont Subchapter, are two women that will be honored May 5 at the South Sound Exceptional Women banquet hosted by Soroptimist International of Olympia.

The South Sound Exceptional Women's banquet is an opportunity to recognize extraordinary women while also serving as a fundraiser for the group to benefit their charitable endeavors, according to Karen Hall, fundraising chair, Olympia Soroptimists.

The banquet committee came up with the following to describe the concept:

"We all know a woman who has truly gone above and beyond to make the lives of all those around her better.  Her dedication to service is exceptional. She does not do this for recognition.  She does not do this for praise. But she deserves both. Whether her service is for a group or business, local or global, she deserves to be put in the spotlight for her work."

Hulsey was nominated by Daniel White, captain of the JBLM Chapter of Team RWB.

Co-founder of the Team RWB JBLM Chapter and a former chapter captain, she currently serves on the board of directors and manages the social committee.

"Flavia established great partnerships with the local community, recruited the first members and leaders to the chapter and created the administrative infrastructure to grow the organization," said White. "Under her leadership, the chapter grew to over eight hundred members and is still growing. Flavia accomplished all the things while working full time in public affairs at JBLM and participating in other local civic organizations such as the Junior Women's League of Olympia.  She is an incredible asset to our community and an inspiration to so many around her."

Constantine was nominated by Karen Getchell, president of the DuPont Subchapter of AUSA.

"As president of the AUSA DuPont Subchapter, I was planning a military appreciation basketball game when a friend introduced me to Holly.  Little did I know what a gem I had just met," Getchell said. "Holly quickly joined AUSA and jumped in with both feet. Not only did she work tirelessly to make our event a success but she also took on the Single Soldier Program.  This program provides baskets to all of the Army single soldiers returning from deployment at JBLM. She is responsible for collecting donations, purchasing supplies and basket delivery."

In addition to her position as vice president of the AUSA DuPont Subchapter, Constantine serves on the board of directors for Olympia Master Builders and chaired its fundraising auction in 2009 and 2011. She also served as vice president of the Auburn Mountainview Booster Club 2011-2014 and chaired its auction in 2014. From 2008-2010, she served as vice president for Rebuilding Together Thurston County.

Soroptimists International of Olympia is part of an international organization that provides community-minded women an opportunity for service. Through the local club, they work to improve the community and the lives of women and girls in the greater Olympia community and throughout the world. Their mission is to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
