Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve seeks volunteers

Local supporters to improve employer relations

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is actively looking for qualified individuals to join their organization on a volunteer basis. This Department of Defense office was established in 1972 and works closely with members of the Guard and Reserve to work with their civilian employers. The ESGR recognizes the need for employers to not only understand but also value the military service of our National Guard and Reserve. The organization strives to lend a neutral hand in finding a peaceful resolution in conflicts that may arise from an employee's military commitment in the Guard or Reserve.

Volunteers in the ESGR must be willing to donate a few hours a month by assisting with improving employer relations. This could be done by conducting employer outreach and developing a rapport with employers while promoting advocacy. Volunteering can also come in the form of working with public affairs and media outlets to help promote the mission behind ESGR. It is the mission of the ESGR to promote the rights of servicemembers protected by the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment act of 1994. All volunteers receive the necessary training and must also attend the monthly ESGR committee meetings held once a month. The meetings serve as an opportunity to ensure that all volunteers are on track. The nationwide organization welcomes volunteers with various backgrounds. Some volunteers have military backgrounds while others have business experience or civilians who just wish to lend a helping hand.

Anyone who is interested in finding out more information about ESGR or about becoming a volunteer is welcome to contact Marie Moynahan, Program Support Specialist at Camp Murray. You may reach her at: 253.512.8489.
