Listening to Christmas music during the holiday season is one way festivities are celebrated this time of the year. The 133D Army National Guard Band celebrated this revered tradition by putting on a free concert that combined classic Christmas melodies with American patriotism for their annual Red, White and Blue Holiday Concert.

On Sunday, Dec. 6, the concert and jazz band played at Auburn's Performing Arts Center, with song selections ranging from the well-loved "Jingle Bell Rock" to childhood favorites like "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." Other beloved carols such a "Sleigh Ride," "Winter Wonderland" and "Angels We Have Heard on High" were also performed in enjoyable and entertaining renditions.

The stage was set with dazzling lights, fully decorated Christmas trees, and the gleam from the shining instruments set the tone for a magical afternoon.

The toe-tapping, high-energy atmosphere filled the auditorium for 90 minutes with warm vibes and a sense of humble familiarity as each song rolled into the next. Among the classics stood out the popular ice-themed tune "Let it Go" from Disney's Frozen, sung by the talented Kristen Anderson-Lopez dressed as the enchanting Elsa.

Children gathered onto the stage as CMSgt. Trish Almond read the time-honored favorite Twas the Night Before Christmas aloud with accompanying music by the band, adding excitement to the bedtime Christmas Eve narrative.

When asked what her favorite aspect of the event was, Almond responded cheerfully: "It gives us the opportunity to show people there is a connection between the local community and Washington State Guardsmen; it shows a different side of our military."

During this special time of year, it's spectacular to get a dose of Christmas cheer, especially when the experiences can be shared with families, friends, and the outstanding members of our United States military.
