Two things

First, where is the good looking Carson Daly from 1997? Why has he been replaced with the too tan, too thin buzz-cut hair having, suit-wearing Carson?  That's bad. Quit it. I want the T-shirt wearing Carson back.

Second, why is everybody freaking out that Kate Moss does nose candy? Yes, I know, it's bad, but she's a supermodel dating a self-admitted crazy, drug-using rock star. No one should be surprised. Next people will be surprised that models have eating disorders or that comedians are not happy all the time.

Friday, Sept. 30

Hanging out with The Frenchman is always fun. We ran into Mikey at the Kitchen when we went to see Underride, Glimpse and Top Heavy Crush. Naja and Dell were hanging out being sassy, and Candice had a large posse of her friends all together for photo ops. Soundman Mike Corvin warmed up Glimpse's drum kit and for a second looked like he was ready to rock the show. A nightcap at the Hob-Nob ensured I'd sleep well.

Saturday, Oct. 1

The Fur Ball was like going to the prom, but for adults. Evening gowns, tuxedos, limos, open bar, catered dinner; the works enveloped Tacoma's Temple Theater.  The Dugan Foundation puts on the annual fund-raiser shindig to generate money for the spectacular no-kill animal shelter being built here in Pierce County. Jim and Julie Dugan are the coolest people with rad vision. The live auction was fun and frenzied. Handsome bid on and won a night on the town in a Mercedes limo bus for 12 people. Super fun! The champagne kept flowing, and then the band started up with old-school jazz and blues hits. The dance floor looked like the movie "Strictly Ballroom." Handsome took me out for a twirl. I don't think I have ever smiled so widely in my life as when he spun me through turn after turn. Holy Cinderella moment and I don't mean the hair band from the '80s. These people plunked down a lot of cash to help the animals of Pierce County, and that just touches my heart like nothing else. Jordan from 21 Commerce donated her time as a volunteer to help the evening go smoothly. What a great chick!

Monday, Oct. 3

Bernadette Seacrest was amazing at Jazzbones. Kill Kill Orchestra from Olympia opened. Their drummer, Nick, was whistling and hollering in much appreciation of Bernadette. She sang '30s-'40s jazz and blues hits, and when the crowd demanded an encore, she pulled out the stops and did a sweet version of Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails. It ruled and was made all the better accompanied by her stand-up bass player. People drove down from Seattle to dance to Seacrest's swinging vocal styling. The guys all agree, "Yeeeoww, she was hot!" Rose, Blue, Rosati, Robcat (who was blown away) and Jimo came down and caught the show.

 sunday

the atomic bombshells

The Atomic Bombshells have taken their burlesque show all over the country, got to be the girls for the Camel Tour, have been on MTV.com and featured in GQ magazine. Wrapping up a month long stint at The Triple Door in Seattle, Sunday will be their first time in Tacoma and Jazzbones as the first of three monthly Sunday shows. Vavava voom! 8 p.m., $10, Jazzbones, 2803 Sixth Avenue, Tacoma.

tuesday

all-ages open mic

The MP on South Tacoma Way now has an all-ages open mic/acoustic show on Tuesdays. That's cool because it gives kids under 21 a place to play. Nice job, Carlos. The MP also has band battles tearing it up with rock, metal and punk shows on the weekends. 7 p.m., 5324 South Tacoma Way, Tacoma.
