Say goodbye to summer. I know, I know, but admit it - it's over.

Wednesday, Sept. 14

Caught Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at Nuemo's for Ebony and The Italian's birthdays. BRMC's new music is so much mellower than their last two albums.  Anyone who went thinking she was going to rock out was sorely disappointed. I know I was. It was Pearl Jam with Neil Young all over again, which is fine if you like that. I should have known by the style of the opening act à la Peter, Paul and Mary (acoustic everything). The Elephants were playing right down the street at The Baltic Room, but I couldn't drag anyone with me. The Italian insisted we leave early, so he could get up for work, but then he wanted birthday drinks at every bar we passed on the way to his apartment. I think his favorite stop was at The Blue Moon. Apparently he used to sneak in there when he was just a pup and carved his name in a booth. The Tin Hat on Phinney Ridge served an enormous PBR goblet. Made me ill just looking at it, not that I don't like Pabst (I do), but not at 1:50 a.m. and not the mega-drunk size for sure.

Friday-Sunday, Sept. 16-18

Driving to Lake Chelan was kind of fun. The Model Squad squeezed their long legs into my car, and we hit the road. There were freeway wreckage, Burger King crowns, many pee stops, liquor stores and leering gas station attendants. Rose, Eb, GG and I spent Saturday beside the pool. It wasn't long before we circled the patio chairs and were laughing and talking loudly courtesy of pitchers of vodka tonic. The sun was just hot enough to give us a warm glow, and the heated pool made it easy to stay in until we pruned up. GG made a fab dinner of chicken curry. To be honest, lying around watching DVDs was a lot more fun than driving 30 minutes to the nearest bar. I guess we didn't need to get hit on by hicks that bad. Plus, we had enough liquor on hand to kill a small child. Why leave?

By the way

The Recording Academy Honors are on Sept. 24 at Seattle's Westin Hotel. This is a spendy function but looks to be totally worth it. You get dinner, the award show, performances by The Kingsmen, Julian Preister, Smoosh and Kinski. Not bad for $150 (my gawd, did I just say that?).

the pharmacy Sept. 24

Free Tacoma Project and Club Zoe are at it again this weekend bringing Tacoma cool music for the all ages crowd featuring power pop Indie group The Pharmacy and The Moriarty. The Pharmacy has been called a Ween rip-off band. Imitation is the best form of flattery or something like that. It's jangly, slightly off-kilter and generally fun. Synth use is high. 8 p.m., $5 cover, 1710 Market St., downtown Tacoma.
