Joint Base Lewis-McChord announced today the name of the Soldier who died during a training exercise.
Sgt. 1st Class Patrick L. Huntley, 31, of Portland, Oregon, died Nov. 7, of injuries suffered when a Stryker vehicle rolled over during training at the National Training Center; Fort Irwin, Calif. Huntley was assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, which is part of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
Huntley enlisted in the Army in 1998, and served as an infantryman in 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment and 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division at then-Fort Lewis (now JBLM). He served with the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment in Germany, and most recently as a drill sergeant at Fort Benning, Ga., before arriving in August at Joint Base Lewis-McChord for his current assignment. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom twice, from October 2004 - October 2005 and September 2007 - November,2008.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal (3 awards), Army Achievement Medal (3 awards), Valorous Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (4 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3 awards), Certificate of Achievement (3 awards), Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge.
