I can't believe information like this is published within 5 hours of an incident. If you knew anything about the military notification process, you would know that the family may not have been notified yet. Although names are not published in this article, posting this information causes families of the unit to worry that it might be their Soldier who won't be coming home. Please wait to post this type of story until you know that the families have been notified....or at least wait a day.

The story that was posted was a release from JBLM PAO. We do not report on stories like this without approval from official DoD releases.

This is my husbands unit. I have still not received any more information about the Soldiers involved. I have not heard from my husband and my friend has not heard from her husband either. We were told that no news is good news. We were also told that if it were our spouse, we would have been contacted by now. I am praying for the family that receives the news. I wish that my husband would call but I have been informed that they are not allowed to call when something like this happens.

I agree that this stuff should not be in the news until a name CAN be released. My fiance is in that unit and down there at NTC and I have to sit here and wait and try not to panic or go into early labor worrying that its him. The news should be a little bit more considerate of how the soldiers familys worry.

Being a wife of a soldier in the 2nd brigade stryker driver I would love to know if my husband is alive and well... I don't know why you post stuff like this knowing we will worry all day!!

You people should really wait to publish these things until after you are positive the family is notified. My husband is there now with 2-2. Do you realize what these articles and reports do to us military families who haven't been in touch with their husbands, wives, fathers, brothers.....?
I didn't think so.

Thank you for the insights and comments in how we released this news. Again, please understand, this was an official news release sent by public affairs at JBLM that we reprinted. Beyond that, however, it is in our experience that getting the news out accurately has advantages. Once the rumor mill kicks in, the info can get distorted. False news that more than one person died, or 10 people were injured could start circulating, thus creating more anxiety. We feel it is better to get out the facts as they are "officially" known, even though a name hasn't been released, is better than leaving the facts to rumor and gossip. And believe me, after 22 years in this job here, that is exactly what happens. Of course, we always leave those facts to official sources, and allow the DoD to decide when and where to release information as it is known. I am sorry for the anxiety everyone in the 2nd Bde experienced. And we will continue to evaluate each DoD news release as we receive them.

To those of you who are involved or married, if it were your spouse/significant others, you would have been notified immediately and would know by now. So quit getting all upset over nothing. To the person who mentioned, "no news is good news" has a point. And to the person w/ the fiance - maybe you're in touch with his family; and if anything were to happen to him I am sure his mom/dad, sister/brother would inform you. Over all, this is sad news, my thoughts && prayers go out to everyone involved. And to the Journalist who wrote this piece, thank you for the information.

My prayers to the family.
and I agree with 'anonymous'-The military does not release this type of info to the media immediately. However, I do believe the time frame for family notification is 4 hours-so if you have not had a phone call/knock on the door before you read ANYTHING, it is NOT your soldier. The first press releases state 'pending family notification' so that the immediate (first reportee) has the opportunity to contact extended family.

My boyfriend is in this unit and the only word I heard from him was a text message I received saying that he was alright. And that they lost a man in his unit. Praying for the family who are enduring the loss of their loved one.
