Last Saturday, Farrelli's in DuPont (1590 Wilmington Drive) stepped in to help raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project, as part of the current fundraising efforts related to the upcoming Seattle Soldier Ride.

The Soldier Ride is a WWP initiative that provides rehabilitative cycling opportunities to help wounded warriors restore their physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as to raise funds for the WWP. The ride is open to the public and more than 15 rides are held nationwide.

"I had contacted Sunny Waugh, the General Manager, and she bent over backwards to come up with an idea," said Pedaling Patriots team member Gina Hooft. "They have been very helpful and willing to do whatever it took to get this going for us. This has been exciting!"

Farrelli's created specialty Wounded Warriors pizzas to sell all that day (topped with pepperoni, sausage and basil) and committed to sending $10 for every 16-inch pizza and $6 for every 12-inch pizza sold directly to the Wounded Warrior Fund.

The race, which is being held on Saturday, Sept. 17, will begin at 9 a.m. the LeMay Family Collection Foundation?Marymount Event Center in Tacoma and continue on one of two routes, either the 25-mile or 50-mile loop. It is open to spectators and those wishing to cheer on the warriors and their supporters.

At the end of the day, the restaurant sold 21 16" pizzas and six 12" pizzas, to raise a total of $246. As Farrelli's posted on their Facebook wall, the fundraiser was intended to ‘thank them for their commitment to our freedom.'

To date, the Seattle event has raised $39,620, but there is still time to raise the numbers. Visit www.kintera.org/faf/search/searchParticipants.asp?ievent=447729&lis=1&kntae447729=333C9ABEDA1944B3BCFD1794767EBD04 to contribute.
