The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Post 91, works hard to serve the local community and Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM).
"We're involved with the Foss High School Junior ROTC; we sponsor scholarships for college bound students; we put on dinners to raise funds to help our soldiers and veterans," said the post's commander, Elmer Clark, a Vietnam War and Air Force veteran.
The post counts over 600 veterans in its ranks, and it is actively seeking more.
"We're looking for more members; we need more to do more," continued Clark.
Building on its tradition of community service, the post will host an all you can eat spaghetti feed on Sunday, March 20th.
The feed begins at 1 pm and lasts until all are fed. A donation is $6 per person is requested.
"The event will raise funds to benefit National Military Services (NMS), which promotes awareness of the VFW through community involvement," continued Clark.
"It's a pretty good deal for a meal."
The money raised by the event will be used by NMS to purchase "phone home days" for deployed or hospitalized servicemembers.
"It helps to keep soldiers and their families in touch," added Clark.
Planning to be in attendance will be Sean Murphy, Sen. Patty Murray's South Sound Regional Director.
"He'll be here to answer the question ‘What can the senator do for veterans?'" he added.
He hopes veterans and their family members will attend, enjoy a good meal and get their questions answered.
"It's a good way to learn more about what the senator's office is doing, as well as learn more about VFW Post 91," said Clark.
The post is located at 2000 South Union in Tacoma. For more information, call (253) 759-6995.
