5th Brigade Stryker dies

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. - The Department of Defense announced today the 
death of a Joint Base Lewis-McChord Soldier who was supporting Operation
Enduring Freedom. Spc. Anthony A. Paci, 30, of Rockville, Md., died Mar. 4 at
Gereshk, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered during a vehicle rollover. He was
assigned to the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade, 2nd
Infantry Division.

According to unit records, Paci enlisted October 20, 2004 at Baltimore, Md.
Following basic training and Advanced Individual Training in Military
Occupational Specialty 11C: Indirect Fire Infantryman, he reported to Fort Hood,
Texas, on February 22, 2005. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi
Freedom from December 2005 through November 2006. He was reassigned to Fort
Lewis (now Joint Base Lewis-McChord) May 10, 2007, and was assigned to 1st
Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.
This was his second deployment.

Paci's civilian and military education includes a high school diploma (1999) and
the Military Occupational Specialty 11C: Indirect Fire Infantryman (2004)
qualification course.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good
Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War
on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat
Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge.

On behalf of the entire Joint Base Lewis-McChord military and civilian
community, we extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Spc.
Paci.
