For those who like to light up the karaoke stage or jam with their band in the garage, Joint Base Lewis-McChord Morale, Welfare and Recreation officials want you.

The Festival of the Arts has teamed up with all branches of the military to host the Struttin' Your Stuff Talent Showcase.

Whether it's singing solo, in duet or ensemble, or even with an instrument, military members and their families from all branches are encouraged to come to an audition at 10 a.m. July 10 at Memorial Stadium. Participants will compete in three age categories: youth ages 6-12, teens ages 12-17 and adults 18 and older.

The best 20 to 25 acts will be selected to perform in a talent show, which will take place Aug. 13 and 14 at Nelson Recreation Center.

At the auditions, judges will be looking for acts that are well rehearsed and polished to move on to the talent show, said Bill Strock, Nelson Recreation Center manager.

"We want to see who comes willing to put on a good show," Strock said.

That can mean those performing in a band or duo, putting on a juggling act or even dancing.

"We're looking for any kind of act," he said. "One of our best performers last year was a gospel dancer."

Organizers are hoping the wide selection of performance categories help expand the variety of acts the auditions attract.

"We wanted to add talent categories to reach out to even more of our talented servicemembers and their families," said Patricia LaRock-Barrett, the manager of the community center at McChord Field.

The Struttin' Your Stuff talent show gives participants an invaluable chance to perform and compete, LaRock-Barrett said.

"For families, this talent show gives them a chance to get together and do something with a purpose," she said. "It can be life changing to get in front of an audience even if the family does not win. This program builds a camaraderie ... it cultivates a groupie following.  It is just wonderful to see families working together."

The talent show will be held during the Festival of the Arts at Nelson Recreation Center, and eligible participants will perform in front of judges.  First, second and third place trophies will be awarded in each of the following categories: novelty, vocal (female, male), vocal with instruments, instrumental, and emcee.
