Ladies night out! Women learn about Harleys

Northwest Harley-Davidson knows how to host a party.
For the fifth year, the Lacey dealership featuring America's premier motorcycle hosted its free and biannual Ladies Garage Party March 22.

"It's a great opportunity for women of all ages to get up close and personal with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle," Tina Torfin, guest relations and marketing manager, explained as she set up some raffle gifts and made sure the goody bags were full.

Close to 75 women streamed in and took seats at nicely decorated tables.  Some said they owned a Harley; many said this was their fist experience with anything having to do with a motorcycle.

Nearby local vendors offered everything from massages and jewelry to cosmetics and photography.

"To begin the evening, we will host a small fashion show of the latest Harley-Davidson Spring clothing line," Torfin said.

After the show, the ladies enjoyed an authentic Mexican dinner hosted by Don Juan's Mexican Kitchen.  Once they finished eating, the ladies learned more about motorcycles, safety gear and how to pick up a downed bike.

"It's not as hard as many women think," explained Andrea Kuban as she socialized with some of the guests. "But knowing how to pick up a downed bike is definitely a good thing to know."

Meanwhile, Frances Hunter carefully mulled over the notion of purchasing a Harley-Davidson of her own.

"I love this place; I love coming in here," she said as her husband, Don, stood by.  "I think Harley-Davidsons are gorgeous bikes, but I'm not quite sure I want to learn to ride one yet.  Perhaps, soon, I will."

Northwest Harley-Davidson is located at 8000 Freedom Lane NE in Lacey. For more information, visit www.nwharley.com or call (360) 705-8515.
