Lakewood Ford likes to thank local Servicemembers.

From donating a van to McChord's Airman Against Drunk Driving program in 2011 to collecting frozen turkeys for a Joint Base Lewis-McChord Thanksgiving Feast and care package items for deployed troops, the dealership has lived up to its motto of "veterans serving veterans."

And with the holidays just around the corner, it has come up with yet another way to honor local Servicemembers.

Starting the week after Thanksgiving and continuing through December (or while supplies last), Lakewood Ford will distribute free discount cards to Servicemembers and their families.

Similar to the fundraising cards sold by schools and booster clubs - which can cost up to $20 each - the cards feature discounts from about 20 local businesses, including Sears, Arbys, Garlic Jims and of course Lakewood Ford, which is offering a 2-for-1 oil change. Some of the sponsors offer a discount off goods or services; others offer 2-for-1 specials.

"It's something we should be doing anyway," said Lakewood Ford General Sales Manager Boyd Hamilton.

With a large military clientele and several retired or former Servicemembers on staff, including general manager Henry Krebs, a Vietnam veteran, Lakewood Ford is always looking for ways to show its appreciation to the military.

To get the card, all Servicemembers or families need to do is come in to the dealership, located at 11503 Pacific Highway, and ask for it.

"It's just another way to give back," Hamilton said. “It’s a thank you from us to them.”
