KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - The sun's rays beat down on the Soldiers of 2nd Brigade Support Battalion, Mustangs, as they stand at attention ready to welcome their new commander.

Lt. Col. Gary Grubb assumed command of the 2nd BSB, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division during an assumption of command ceremony Aug. 8 at Forward Operating Base Walton, Afghanistan.

The 2nd BSB is in the third month of their nine-month mission of providing continuous logistical support to the thousands of Lancer Soldiers with the 2nd SBCT stationed in the Combined Task Force Lancer area of operation.

"(The actions of 2nd BSB) enable thousands of men to accomplish their mission in supporting the peace and prosperity for hundreds of thousands of your fellow human beings," said Col. Barry Huggins, who serves as the 2nd SBCT commander. "It is clear that (they) have earned the trust and respect of the rest of (their) unit. You see men who have traveled great distance in clear danger to themselves just to be here today to honor this transition and this significant moment during this mission."

Grubb expressed his excitement as he spoke to his Soldiers who stood under the Afghan sun ready to welcome their new commander.

"I am excited and honored to stand here today and particularly humbled to be joining the Lancer team," said Grubb. "(2nd SBCT) has an outstanding reputation both here in Afghanistan and back at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, which is a tribute to the Lancer's leaders and their Soldiers."

The 2nd BSB provides a diversity of support capabilities to the Soldiers of 2nd SBCT to include dental service, mechanical support for vehicles and the logistics of mail, fuel and food.

"The Mustang Soldiers out here today have also earned a great reputation of complete professionalism and the willingness to support (2nd SBCT) no matter what the cost," said Grubb. "Across the spectrum of 55 different (military occupational specialties), Soldiers of this battalion get the job done without complaining or personal regard."

The 2nd BSB know they have a leader who is eager to guide them as they continue their vital role of providing support throughout the CTF Lancer.

"I am truly honored to have this opportunity and do not take it lightly," said Grubb. "I look forward to serving as (the 2nd BSB commander)."
