Biography

Tacoma's Roger Williams Family band is a simple group of long time best friends writting and soon performing old gaucho country folk music from their native south american roots. The music comes from a time when Gauchos sat around a fire while cooking, drinking and playing music. They could hear the native indian tribe "Calchaqi" in the distance chanting and beating their drums/ percussives in a unique style. The gauchos decided to meet at the same spot nightly to perform to the Calchaqi's beats. What they didnt anticipate was the Calchaqi being able to hear them thru the roaring hill sides. Four of the Calchaqi natives went to meet the Gauchos with drum in hand. They never walked up to the Gauchos, but instead stood between 30-40' away every night just far away enough to hear the mix nicely.
Roughly 1 year later the Williams family "Cowboys" while on the move thru the "Pampas" of Argentina, ran into the Gauchos while setting up their nightly fire. They were invited to join in drink, meal and music. The Cowboys introduced a rough hardship lead vocal style that when mixed with the Gaucho's "spanish guitar and vocal harmonies" made time stand still. Both the Cowboys and Gauchos became close family, meeting every night for music, drink and meal. The four Calchaqi natives hesitated for weeks to visit them almost as if they knew time was needed to perfect this new style music.
Soon the faint distant tribal beats could be heard by the Gauchos and Cowboys, giving them even more magic than they knew they had.
One perfect clear full moon night the 4 Calchaqi members walked slowly towards the fire and joined the Gauchos and Cowboys forming the most magical unheard of moments in the universe. That night Song: "Yo no le canto a la luna" was written and played for the first time. Translation: "I do not sing to the moon because it only shines"
Since this old moment in time their musical style was best captured by "The Calchaqueros" a group that also shared this story through the Gaucho family. Roger Williams family band are the last living family members "from the fires of the Pampas" back in the 1700's.
