Biography

POEINA SUDDARTH HITS THE ROAD AS A SOLO ACT AFTER TOURING WITH OTHER BANDS FOR 13 YEARS.
Poeina is hitting the road as the tour manager and opening act for Unison Music’s new act the Baron Sisters for the month of July.

Poeina Suddarth’s genre was coined as subdued thrasher bluegrass by producer and long time friend Smoke of Oldominion. Though Poeina has been inspired and closely knit into the NW hip hop community, by contributing vocal tracks for hip hop artists such as, IAME, Dark Time Sunshine, Chicharones(spin-best north American bar band), Eastern Sunz(independent music awards peoples choice 2011); her music has been more often compared with Janis Joplin, Jeff Buckley and Billie Holiday.

Poeina will be touring the month of July as opener and tour manager for Unison Music’s new act The Baron Sisters, with a self released version of her debut solo album “Happy Whore” which features NW musicians The Shook Twins, Raelyn Olson, Adam Hurst, Mary Ellen Grace, Danny Haigh and French ??"American percussionist Sarah Linderman. Poeina relocated from the NW to Los Angeles, California at the beginning of 2012 to work on a new music video with Brett Spackman and she is interning for the Unison Music record label.

Ending a long term relationship with her lover and band mate (bassist for redfish bluefish & felina’s arrow) as well as recovering from her tumultuous upbringing was the inspiration for Poeina Suddarth’s new material. Her solo music first hit the stage during her original musical production, “The Bedroom Show” May of 2011. The show was based on the theme from her song White Mountain Beauty on the new album “Happy Whore”, that says “with the thunder brings the rain in the canyons echoing like the time I lost my faith and still survived, while every song’s been sung and every heart’s been broken I’m a saint, cuz, im a sinner, cuz I’m alive”. The bedroom show was written, produced and performed by Poeina Suddarth with the support from her NW community. The bedroom show included 4 silent films, 4 dancers, 11 musicians, and many more behind the scenes. “Suddarth’s new autobiographical musical, is not just one long descent into hell, though, it’s also a story of hope and resurrection, and contains some downright great music from her seventh CD “Happy Whore,” including songs that range from intricate rock to bouncy country.”-Rob Cullivan the Portland Tribune

Poeina toured with different rock, indy, folk, and hip hop bands over the last 13 years spending the majority of her life on the road. She spent a few winters in Roseberry, ID to rest and relax from traveling. Though she was without running water, she used snow melt on top the wood stove, to cook, clean and bathe. While wood shedding, Poeina organized and taught the Long Valley Youth Choir. After an almost non stop four years of touring and living in her van she landed in Portland, OR where she began teaching at Cadenza Academy of Music. While living in Portland she volunteered as the event organizer for the Luna Music Series for three years. The music series was based out of the feminist collective bookstore In Other Words, that was featured in the TV show Portlandia. She continued teaching and running the music series until moving out to the white mountains of Arizona where she was totally off the grid. Poeina had to haul water, build a shelter, and worked on a nearby farm in trade for food.

With well over 200 original songs composed throughout her life, Poeina is always well armed and ready to take the stage with operatic presence, wearing reconstructed ball gowns, Japanese maple braches in her hair, and a sexually charged banshee wailing from her soul. She will roar and lament her trials and tribulations. Then with no less control whisper and laugh beautiful lullaby’s while running the gamut of tale-telling music. You can hear music from Poeina’s solo debut album “happy whore” this July when she heads out as tour manager and opening act for Unison Music’s new band The Baron Sisters on a 21 citys tour of the west coast.

“Poeina Suddarth mesmerized the audience with her emotional set which was both passionate and at times painful, her songs have an incredible range of styles from operatic and melodic, to pop, and her performance was visceral.” ??"Ana Amann Oregon Music News

“Poeina Suddarth was singing backups for most of the set, but she surprised everyone later on by proving she could sing her way out of a glass jar with some impressive and powerful vocals, seamlessly shifting from a soulful growl to a falsetto Minnie Riperton would envy.” ??"Shawnnn CT indie show review
